Mental Health Peace Officer #4201

TCOLE Mental Health Peace Officer Certification Course #4201. The purpose of the Mental Health Officer course is to further inform and educate the officer in the area of the mental health and issues pertaining to serving as a mental health officer, to include advanced crisis intervention.

Student Prerequisites (TCOLE Rule §221.11):

(a)   To qualify for a mental health officer proficiency certificate, an applicant must meet the following requirements:

(1)   currently appointed as a peace officer, county jailer, or justice of the peace;

(2)   at least two years' experience as a peace officer, county jailer, or justice of the peace;

(3)   if not currently a commissioned peace officer or county jailer, an applicant must meet the current enrollment standards;

(4)   if an applicant is a commissioned peace officer or county jailer, an applicant must not ever have had a license or certificate issued by the commission suspended or revoked;

(5)   if an applicant is a commissioned peace officer or county jailer, an applicant must have met the continuing education requirements for the previous training cycle;

(6)   successful completion of a training course in emergency first aid and lifesaving techniques (Red Cross or equivalent); and

(7)   successful completion of the current mental health officer training course and pass the approved examination for mental health officer proficiency.

Basic Firearms Instructor

This course will help you develop the additional knowledge, skills, and techniques needed to organize and teach firearms courses. Participants will learn to diagnose and correct student weaknesses, analyze and score targets, design and run courses of fire, and properly document police firearms training. Participants will be able to develop and implement comprehensive firearms training programs.

Prerequisites:

Must have TCOLE #1014 Basic Instructor proficiency certificate! This means that you not only have to have completed the Basic Instructor class, but also submitted the Instructor Proficiency Certificate Form and $35 fee to TCOLE to have that as an award on your PSR.

Participants must pass the Firearms Instructor Qualification on the first day of class. There will be no refunds for any candidate dismissed for failure to meet the minimum firearms qualification.

Participants will need to bring the following:

Ballistic Vest.

Hearing protection.

Eye protection.

Billed cap.

Semi-automatic pistol with three magazines.

Duty belt, flashlight, magazine holder.

Factory loaded ammunition, 500 rounds for semi-automatic pistol.

12 gauge police shotgun with ammunition (50 rounds of birdshot, 25 rounds of buck shot and 10 rounds of rifled slug).

250 rounds of rifle.

Durable clothes for outdoor range activities including foul weather.

Gun cleaning supplies appropriate for their weapons.

Snacks if desired.

Participants will learn modern methods for effectively training adults and techniques for creating a productive and thriving learning environment.

This course meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements Basic Instructor Course #1014.
