In order to successfully prosecute perpetrators of child abuse, it is critical that law enforcement officers and prosecutors have a basic awareness of child neglect and abuse. This course is an overview of child abuse and neglect, definitions, current statistics, possible causes, and some basic investigation techniques. Successful completion of this course will aid officers in recognizing signs of child abuse and neglect, and to perform the tasks necessary, when appropriate, to formulate an effective case that meets the probable cause elements.

The overview is specifically tailored for first responders and others who may be the first to interview witnesses and file a missing or abducted child report. To further your career in law enforcement, additional resources, courses, best practices, and manuals should be considered and consulted to develop a specific area of expertise in this investigative field. We have provided many of the most current resources throughout this course.
Int. Crime Scene Investigation

The Intermediate Crime Scene Search Course is designed to provide additional information on this subject area. This course is one of the seven courses required for Intermediate certification. It is not meant to override department policy and current laws. This is a hands on working course.
